Serratia inhibens sp. nov., a new antifungal species isolated from potato (Solanum tuberosum)

Abstract: A novel bacterial strain, S40T, with strong antifungal activity was isolated from the rhizosphere of green potato collected from Zealand, Denmark. Polyphasic analysis with a combined phenotypic, phylogenetic and genomic approach was used to characterize S40T. Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rRNA gene and MLSA (concatenated gyrB, rpoD, infB and atpD sequences) showed that strain S40T was affiliated with the genus Serratia … Show more

“…It is necessary to keep in mind that the predictive power of PC variables, as principal components of a multivariate analysis, came from the interaction patterns among the OTUs and not from their individual behavior. However, we can highlight the presence, for instance, of the bacterial biocontrol-related genus Serratia ( 42 ) as the taxonomic identity of the OTU with the highest positive correlation with yield in PC25 and Bacillus sp. as the taxonomic identity of the OTU with the highest positive correlation with yield in PC3 ( Fig.…”

“…The phylogenetic tree shows that S. plymuthica UBCF_13 is in same cluster with strain AS9, PRI-2C, NCTC8015, and NCTC8900. The strain PRI-2C is reclassified and transferred to the species S. inhibens 22 . The pangenome was performed together with other strains in order to obtain further insight into specific features in the UBCF_13.…”

“…A positive result required a clearance zone of at least 1 mm around a colony. Serratia inhibens S40 (Hennessy et al, 2020) was used as the positive control.…”
