Serum Amyloid A Protein and C-Reactive Protein in Normal Pregnancy and Preeclampsia

Abstract: Aims: To study plasma levels of serum amyloid A protein and C-reactive protein in pregnant women with and without preeclampsia and non-pregnant women. Plasma levels of haptoglobin, orosomucoid and ceruloplasmin were also analyzed. Methods: The study included 295 women with uncomplicated pregnancies, 57 women diagnosed with preeclampsia, and 58 healthy non-pregnant women. Plasma concentrations of acute phase proteins were analyzed by particle-enhanced immunoassays. Non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney… Show more

“…The mean carbohydrate, fat, and protein intake was 51 E%, 31 E%, and 16 E%, respectively. The concentrations of the inflammatory markers were comparable to values observed among other pregnant populations (Supporting Information Table S1); for example, the median concentration of hsCRP was 2.6 µg/mL (interquartile range, IQR = 2.9), for SAA 761 ng/mL (693), and for IL8 3.3 pg/mL (2.3).…”

“…This is an inflammatory biomarker, which was shown to increase fourfold in PE in one study (892), was significantly raised in another (882), but not in a third (893). However, it is a well-established (and potent) biomarker for infection/sepsis [e.g., Ref.…”
