Serum human telomerase reverse transcriptase: a novel biomarker for breast cancer diagnosis

Abstract: Serum hTERT is useful for diagnosing and assessing the clinical stage of breast cancer and is superior to conventional markers. Therefore, serum hTERT could have a potential application as a novel biomarker for breast cancer diagnosis.

“…Loss-of-function telomerase gene variants associated with short telomeres were risk factors for sporadic cirrhosis [ 30 ]. The expression of telomerase reverse transcriptase in different parts of human body was found associated with cancer [ 31 , 32 ]. Glucose-methanol-choline oxidoreductase played an important role of cyanohydrin formation and fungal degradation of lignin [ 33 , 34 ].…”

“…Recent studies have examined the cell-free mRNA expression of several genes, including TS [ 28 ], β-catenin [ 29 ], hTERT [ 26 , 30 , 31 ], CK19 [ 32 , 33 ], MUC1 [ 34 ], CXCR4 [ 35 ], Bmi-1 [ 35 ], Her-2 [ 36 ] and DKK1 [ 24 ], these studies have focused on the use of cell-free mRNA for early diagnosis, tumor staging and disease monitoring. In contrast, to the best of our knowledge, the present study is the first to examine the potential role of plasma mRNA for predicting docetaxel and pemetrexed chemosensitivity of solid tumors.…”
