Serum IgM antibody and influenza A infection.

Abstract: (Dobrovolskaya, 1971;Daugharty et al., 1972;Brown and O'Leary, 1973;Urquhart, 1974;Buchner et al., 1976). The present study aimed to show the frequency with which sucrose density gradient ultracentrifugation followed by haemagglutination inhibition (HI) could detect specific serum IgM antibodies in patients recently infected with influenza A. The results obtained by this technique were compared with the standard complement fixation test. Material and methods VIRUSThe virus used in all haemagglutination-inhibit… Show more

“…Although it is time consuming, CFT was chosen to screen patients' samples for recent influenza. Indeed, CFT preferentially detects IgM and provides a particularly reliable means to detect recent viral infection [24][25][26][27]. This screening approach was then confirmed by strainspecific HIAs for cases related to influenza A virus.…”

“…TMB was added and absorbance read at 620 nm. Cord blood samples from six influenza cases were also tested for the presence of IgM anti‐influenza by haemagglutination inhibition assay following sucrose density gradient fractionation 12–13 .…”
