Serum lipids as an indicator for the alteration of liver function in patients with hepatitis B

Abstract: BackgroundHepatitis B virus (HBV) exerts an intense impact on host lipid metabolism. Hence the aim of present study is to determine metabolic derangement that occurred in subjects suffering from hepatitis B patients.MethodsThe fasting blood samples were collected from hepatitis B patients (n = 50) attended in Taluka hospital TandoAdam, Sindh with age and gender matched controls (n = 50). Serum lipid profile and fatty acid (FA) composition were analyzed by micro-lab and gas chromatography.ResultsThe hepatitis B… Show more

“…A decrease in LDL-C level and subsequently LDL-C: HDL-C ratio in HB- and HC-positive patients is interesting. These are in line with those reported recently as significant hypolipidemia in patients with HB [ 46 ] and HC [ 47 ]. Lower platelet count in HB-positive was also reported previously [ 48 ].…”

“…Among them, a decrease of LDL and subsequently LDL: HDL ratio in both HBV and HCV positive patients compared to negative ones are interesting. These are in line with those reported recently as signi cant hypolipidemia in HBV [47] and HCV [48] patients. Lower platelet count in HBV positive, as we found in this study, also reported previously [49].…”
