“…Men and women may differ in their pharmacokinetic responses to TCAs, in a number of autonomic indices, and in various adrenergic receptor mediated responses. Emerging evidence also suggests that women, relative to men, may have a lower rate of brain serotonin synthesis and a greater sensitivity to the depressant effects of tryptophan depletion (Pomara et al , 2001).…”

“…Decreased levels of TRP was observed in the blood of patients with depression in several clinical trials [ 21 , 22 , 23 ]. Although clinical trials mainly concentrate on supplementing or depriving TRP or its metabolites for the treatment of neuropsychiatric diseases, current preclinical efforts in drug development for these diseases have mainly focused on altering the rheostat of neuroactive metabolites of the kynurenine pathway [ 24 ].…”

“…Nortriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant, which was originally developed as an antidepressant and is known to have anticholinergic action as an adverse reaction. The anticholinergic action systemically suppresses secretion of serous fluids, causing cardiotoxicity, cognitive disturbance, confusion, seizure, blurred vision, dry mouth, urinary difficulty, and constipation [5,6]. Because of these side effects, tricyclic antidepressants are contraindicated in the event of severe impairment of myocardial performance, seizure disorders, glaucoma or large prostate [7].…”
