This study explores teenage students' views on sexting, with particular regard to image sharing, as well as how this shapes gender relations at a rural lower secondary school in Sweden. Among the boys at the school, students' sexting practices have created a hegemonic and homosocial peer culture. Homosociality is expressed by boys' sharing images of girls with their male peers without the girls' consent. The girls express how the exchanging of explicit images puts them in a vulnerable position, stating that they are exposed to threats as well as slut-shaming. Sharing explicit sexual images without consent is a form of sexual harassment aimed at the girls, which has an impact on their well-being. This study hopes to contribute knowledge about teens' experiences and practices of sexting and how this behaviour shapes students' power relations in school.

Educational interventions on youth sexting often focus on individual sexters or would-be sexters, and are driven by the aim of encouraging young people to abstain from producing and sharing personal sexual images. This approach has been criticised for failing to engage with the complex sociocultural context to youth sexting. Drawing upon qualitative group and one-to-one interviews with 41 young people aged 14 to 18 living in a county in southeast England, I explore young people's perceptions and practices surrounding sexting. By taking a grounded theory approach to the research, I reveal how young people's shaming of digitally mediated sexual self-expression shaped and was shaped by a denial of rights to bodily and sexual autonomy and integrity. This denial of rights underpinned harmful sexting practices, including violations of privacy and consent, victim blaming, and bullying. I conclude that responses to youth sexting should attend to this broader youth cultural context, emphasise the roles and responsibilities of bystanders, and encourage a collectivist digital sexual ethics based upon rights to one's body and freedom from harm (Albury,

Resumen. El artículo da cuenta de una experiencia de ciclo de talleres con aproximadamente 300 adolescentes de instituciones públicas de Enseñanza Media de la ciudad de Montevideo (Uruguay). Las actividades se ejecutaron durante el segundo semestre del 2017 en el marco de un convenio entre el Programa Género, Salud Reproductiva y Sexualidades de la Facultad de Psicología (UdelaR) y el Consejo de Educación Secundaria. Además, se contó con el apoyo del Programa de Educación Sexual de la Administración Nacional de Educación Pública. Los objetivos más importantes del ciclo eran: reflexionar en torno a las prácticas cotidianas de interacción social de los adolescentes en las redes sociales online; debatir sobre la producción y difusión de contenidos de índole sexual en las redes sociales online e intercambiar conocimiento sobre prácticas sexuales novedosas en dichas redes, visualizando los riesgos potenciales. El análisis cualitativo-interpretativo propuesto se basa en los discursos de los participantes en función de las técnicas aplicadas en los talleres. A partir de la información obtenida se definieron categorías analíticas operativas a desarrollar en el presente trabajo. Abstract. This paper discusses the experience of workshops made with approximately 300 adolescents from public high schools in Montevideo (Uruguay). The activities were held during the second half of 2017 within the framework of an agreement between the Gender, Reproductive Health and Sexualities Program of the Faculty of Psychology (UdelaR) and the Secondary Education Council.It also had the support of the Sexual Education Program of the National Administration of Public Education. The most important objectives were: to reflect on the daily practices of social interaction of adolescents in online social networks; discuss the production and spread of sexual content, and exchange knowledge about sexual practices in these networks, visualizing the potential risks. The proposed qualitative-interpretative analysis is based on the discourses of the participants based on the techniques applied in the workshops. Based on the information obtained, it was possible to define the operational analytical categories elaborated in the present work.
