While cross-validation methods are standardly used in multivariate brain analyses to identify and counteract overfitting and assure generalizability of models (e.g., Redlich et al, 2014Redlich et al, , 2016Repple et al, 2023;Schaffer, 1993), they are rarely ever used on univariate brain effects, likely also because common neuroimaging analysis software packages do not offer options to conduct cross-validation.
