Signature of the Van der Waals like small-large charged AdS black hole phase transition in quasinormal modes

Abstract: Abstract:We calculate the quasinormal modes of massless scalar perturbations around small and large four-dimensional Reissner-Nordstrom-Anti de Sitter (RN-AdS) black holes. We find a dramatic change in the slopes of quasinormal frequencies in small and large black holes near the critical point where the Van der Waals like thermodynamic phase transition happens. This further supports that the quasinormal mode can be a dynamic probe of the thermodynamic phase transition.

“…In this process, the real part of the QNMs frequencies varies slightly, while the absolute value of the imaginary part decreases which indicates that the absorption performance of the black hole is reduced whatever the spacetime dimension d is. This result is consistent with the overall analysis reported in [1,55].…”

“…It has been proved that at the phase transition point, the second-order phase transition exists in AdS spacetime black holes and the thermodynamics agree very well with Ehrenfest equation [12,15,17,35,36,46,47]. At present there are two common methods to investigate the critical phenomenon of AdS space-time Black Holes in the literature.…”
