Silica nanochannels boosting Ru(bpy)32+-mediated electrochemical sensor for the detection of guanine in beer and pharmaceutical samples

Abstract: Vertically ordered mesoporous silica film (VMSF) with uniform mesoporous channels perpendicular to electrode substrate has a wide range of applications in direct electroanalysis of complex samples. However, the detection of nucleic acid bases is difficult to realize at the commonly used VMSF-modified indium tin oxide (VMSF/ITO) electrode due to the high overpotentials of underlying ITO for many small organic molecules. In this work, we demonstrated an electrochemical method for the sensitive detection of guani… Show more

“…Nanomaterials usually exhibit novel optical/electrical/magnetic properties and have a high specific surface area due to their unique microstructure and nanoscale size [ 33 , 34 , 35 ]. In recent years, the use of various functional nanomaterials to construct novel sensing systems has attracted much attention [ 36 , 37 , 38 , 39 ]. As 0D fluorescent carbon nanomaterials, carbon dots (CDs) have the advantages of a wide range of synthetic raw materials and good biocompatibility and have been widely applied in the development of advanced fluorescence sensors.…”

“…Among them, the vertically-ordered mesoporous silica films (VMSF) made of numerous perpendicularly aligned nanochannels with a ultrasmall and uniform diameter of 2~3 nm has attracted much attention [ 22 , 23 ]. The deprotonation of plentiful silanols with p K a of ~2 on the VMSF surface endows its negatively charged property [ 24 , 25 ]. All these characteristics endow VMSF with a good capability of prominent charge-based permselectivity, high molecular permeability, and outstanding antifouling ability [ 26 , 27 , 28 ].…”

“…Recent research has found that vertically-ordered mesoporous silica film (VMSF) modified electrode has great potential in direct electroanalysis of complex samples [ 20 , 21 , 22 ]. VMSF has a highly ordered nanochannel array with uniform pore size (commonly 2–3 nm) and high porosity (as high as 7.5 × 10 12 pores/cm 2 ) that is perpendicular to the underlying electrode [ 23 , 24 ]. At present, VMSF can be rapidly grown (within 10 s) on the conductive substrate via an electrochemically assisted self-assembly method (EASA) [ 25 ].…”
