Silver nanoparticles supported on zirconia–ceria for the catalytic wet air oxidation of methyl tert-butyl ether

Abstract: In this work Ag nanoparticles supported on ZrO2–CeO2 promoted with different amounts of CeO2 were synthesized by deposition–precipitation method in order to test the Catalytic Wet Air Oxidation (CWAO) of Methyl Tert-Butyl Ether (MTBE).

“…The trimetallic supported nanocatalysts developed and synthesized in this study possess particular structural properties allowing them to be used for several catalytic applications. The close intimate interaction between metals and support (strong metal–support interaction) is a highly desirable structural property for nanocatalysts as it promotes their redox properties [ 53 , 54 ]. The strong metal–support interaction has a relationship with the number of oxygen vacancies in the support [ 54 , 55 , 56 ].…”

“…DR UV-vis spectroscopy ( Figure 5) is used to examine the nature and environment of Zr and Fe species. The ZrO 2 shows a typical absorption band in 200-250 nm range, which is attributed to O 2-→Zr 4+ charge transfer transition in zirconia 18 . The new bands observed at higher wavelengths in the UV-vis spectra of xFe-ZrO 2 solids correspond to iron species.…”

“…31 The small peak with the highest binding energy (915.59 eV) reveals the existence of a few Ce 4+ species. 32,33 This happened probably because some of Ce 3+ species were oxidized to Ce 4+ in the preparation process. The P and Mo elements of CePMo were also identified by P2p (Figure S10) and Mo3d (Figure 5D) XPS spectra.…”
