Simple and reliable preparation of immunodiagnostic antigens forTaenia soliumcysticercosis

Abstract: SUMMARYCysticercosis caused by infection with the larval stage of Taenia solium is an important cause of neurological disease worldwide and immunodiagnosis is important for the control and elimination of cysticercosis. In the present study, we established a simple and reliable preparation of immunodiagnostic low-molecular-weight antigens (LMWAgs) from T. solium cyst fluids by a cation-exchange chromatography (CEC). Banding patterns of LMWAgs on SDS-PAGE were different between isolates from Ecuador and China. A… Show more

“…Or alternatively, we recommend introduction of serology for cysticercosis in screening of taeniasis carriers and STHs in order to detect asymptomatic NCC based on the recognition that cryptic infections are endemic and potentially most lethal parasitic disease on Bali (Margono et al, 2002;Sudewi et al, 2008;Wandra et al, 2015). When some people are confirmed antibody positive to diagnostic antigens for cysticercosis (Ito et al, 1998Sako et al, 2013;, they are recommended to admit big city hospital(s) for further treatment. However, there is a financial problem how to cover the admission fees!…”

“…Another pig (b) was full of fully developed cysticerci. These pigs were sero-positive to diagnostic antigens purified by cationexchange chromatography established by Sako et al (2013). It is very easy for people in endemic areas to recognize (b), but how to confirm such a small number of immature cysticerci (a) which may easily be evaluated to be free of cysticerci by a routine meat inspection (modified from Wandra et al, 2015).…”

“…Lightowlers (2013) overviews the future prospects for control of T. solium taeniasis/cysticercosis (T/C). Raoul et al (2013) discuss spatially explicit approaches for epidemiological studies on T/C, while Sako et al (2013) describe a new simple method for purification of diagnostic antigens applicable in endemic T. solium areas. Yamane et al (2013) present data that confirms occurrence of hybrids between T. saginata and T. asiatica.…”

“…A computed tomography (CT) scan revealed one viable cystic lesion and one calcified lesion in the right frontal lobe of the brain. At this time, serology (ELISA) was also carried out using partially purified antigens by cation exchange chromatography [46]. The patient was subsequently diagnosed with NCC and treated with albendazole for one month.…”
