During the design of large technical systems, the use of analytic and simulative models to test and dimension the system before implementation is of practical importance for an efficient and reliable design process. However, setting up the necessary models is time-consuming and therefore often too expensive in practice. Usually most information for modeling is already available in the design tool used to develop such extensive systems and only needs to be extracted for automatic model building. This paper presents an automated modeling approach from an existing design database using the example of a network analysis for building automation fieldbuses. The analysis is based on an analytical decomposition approach that enables fast estimation of performance measures for large-scale networks. The combination of fast analytical algorithms with automatic model generation allows network performance engineering with minimized effort for model generation and analysis.Index Terms-Building management networks, carrier sense multiple access (CSMA), network performance, quality of service, queuing analysis.

Most hotels in a commercialized city are now struggling to satisfy the rapid and dynamic changes of customers' requirements. New concepts and approaches for design and development and operation of hotel systems are necessary to cope with these challenges, to maintain market competitiveness, and to secure long-term prosperity. The article examines the present customer requirements and future hotel industry development in a rapidly changing city. The article attempts to formulate strategies to deal with challenges from the utilization of advanced information and systems engineering perspective. An engineering research and development (R&D) framework composed of a customer-oriented approach, a manufacturing system-life-cycle, and artificial intelligence employed in computer integrated manufacturing and agile manufacturing is proposed. Each important aspect of the R&D framework is discussed in detail: the current problems of hotel design and operating concepts, the engineering principles of resolving encountered problems, and methods of facing the challenges.

Vorgestellt wird eine Methode fª die Modellierung und Simulation von Automatisierungssystemen. Die Simulation soll die Validation diverser Implementierungen einer Automatisierungseinrichtung unterstª Die Methode basiert auf der formalen Beschreibung der Ger~ite mit VHDL. Die einzelnen Ger~itemodelle sind an Blocksymbole geknª Mit einem Blockdiagramm-Editor wird durch Verschaltung der Blocksymbole die reale Struktur der Automatisierungseinrichtung abgebildet. Signalgeneratoren erzeugen prozessspezi¡ Lastszenarien. Modellierung, Parametrierung und Validation der Simulationsergebnisse werden an einem Profibus-DPSystem demonstriert. Schlª Profibus; Modellierung; Verhalten; Validation; ReaktionszeitSimulation-based analysis of Profibus configurations. A method is presented to model and simulate automation systems. The simulation is aimed at supporting the validation of various implementations of an automation equipment. The method is based on VHDL formal device descriptions. All device models are represented by block symbols. A block diagram editor is used to model the automation equipment in the real structure by combining the block symbols. Signal generators produce specitic loads derived from controlled process. Modelling, fitting of parameters and validation of simulation results are demonstrated by a Profibus DP system.
