“…A large variety of different pesticides is used in coffee plantations. A recent study identified 117 different pesticides in unwashed raw coffee imported to Europe [ 27 ]. The list of applied pesticides may include insecticides (often applied to fight the coffee berry borer, Hypothenemus hampei ), fungicides and herbicides that are often used in combination.…”

“…Indeed, we have neither observed an accelerated contamination of the mass spectrometer (we have found two preventive maintenances per year to be sufficient) nor a decreased accuracy/precision for analyte/matrix combinations exhibiting comparatively strong absolute matrix effects. As other authors preferred to omit a clean-up step such as dispersive solid phase extraction as well [27], we expect that the importance of this approach (in combination with internal standardization where applicable) will further increase. Therefore, the need for specification/guidance as outlined in this paper becomes more and more pressing.…”

“…No clean-up procedure is also possible. It was used for detection of 30 mycotoxins in coffee samples: MeCN (1% acetic acid) extraction without further purification provided sufficient recovery, and matrix-matched calibration ensured accurate quantification of analytes [ 59 ].…”
