Simultaneous Determination of Ephedrine and 2-Imidazolines in Pharmaceutical Formulations by Reversed-Phase Hplc

Abstract: A simpleIrapidl and accurate method for the determination of naphazoline, oxymetazoline, xylometazoline, and ephedrine in rhological solutions using reversed-phase HPLC was developed. It involves the use of alumina coated with polybutadl7ne as the stationary phase, acetonitrile-aqueous 10 M NaOH (10:90) as the initial mobile phase with a linear gradient from 10 to 80% acetonitrile in 25 min, and detection at 224 nm. The only sample preparation is its dilution with water. Linearity and precision of the method h… Show more

“…Several analytical methods are used to determine naphazoline (NPZ); most are photometric [25] and chromatographic methods. Different types of chromatographic method have been reported in the literature, including thin-layer chromatography [26,27], gas chromatography [28], and high-performance liquid chromatography [29,30,31,32,33,34]. The literature also contains a report of the use of a fluorimetric method [35] to determine naphazoline in ophthalmic solution at λ ex/em =280/327 nm, with a linear range between 0.1 and 0.5 mg mL -1 .…”

“…Several methods have been reported for the determination of SCG in pharmaceutical preparations such as spectrophotometry [3,4], electrophoresis [5], electrochemical [6,7] and HPLC methods [8][9][10][11][12][13][14]. OXMT has also been analyzed by several methods in pharmaceutical preparations such as spectrophotometry [3,[15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22][23], capillary electrophoresis [24,25], gas chromatography [26,27] and HPLC [28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35]. To the best of our knowledge, Abdel-Aziz et al [3] developed new accurate, sensitive and selective spectrophotometric and spectrofluorimetric methods for determination of SCG and OXMT.…”

“…Several different methods have been used for the determination of oxymetazoline hydrochloride OMCl, including high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), [2][3][4][5][6][7][8] gas chromatography, 9 a two-phase titration procedure 10 and spectrophotometric methods. [11][12][13][14][15][16] No potentiometric methods have yet been reported for the determination of OM.…”
