Simultaneous quantification combined with multivariate statistical analysis of multiple chemical markers of Wu Ji Bai Feng Pill by UHPLC–MS/MS

Abstract: Wu Ji Bai Feng Pill (WJBFP) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) complex formula, which has been widely used in the treatment of various gynecological disorders. However, the quality control of multiple components in WJBFP is challengeable by using the methods applicable to analysis of several phytochemicals in single herbs or simple herbal preparations. The purpose of this study is to establish an ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (UHPLC–MS/MS) me… Show more

“…The hierarchical cluster analysis results of the contents of 19 components in one daily dose in the 12 batches of WDD extracted in the lab almost matched the four decoction pots we used in the extraction process (Supplementary Figure S3), which suggest that even if we use the different types of equipment of the same type from the same manufacturer to extract the WDD, they would still lead to the variations in contents of the ingredients in the decoction procedures [34].…”

“…Recovery was assessed by adding 100% of the original concentration of each target compound into known amounts of a real sample. Then, the resultant samples were extracted and analyzed using the proposed method, and six experiments were repeated [ 35 , 39 , 40 ]. The recovery was calculated by the following formula: recovery (%) = (detected amount - original amount)/spiked amount × 100%.…”

“…A study with a TCMP formula, the Bansha (BHT), demonstrated the first application of paper spray mass spectrometry (PS-MS) as a methodology for obtaining fingerprints (Table 3). The PS MS method made it possible to trace the origin, establish authenticity and assess the quality of two BHT manufacturers in the eastern market [25][26]. The negative ion PS-MS spectrum yielded the best phytochemical profile information and was suitable for BHT fingerprint analysis.…”

“…Efficient analytical techniques for separating and detecting chemical substances in complex matrices, such as those derived from TCMP's formulas, are used to characterize the identity of these products by means of FP's. Separation techniques such as thin-layer chromatography (TLC), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), and Capillary Electrophoresis (CE) are integrated with spectrometric techniques for detecting such ultraviolet and visible (UV-Vis), mass spectrometry (MS), infrared (IR), or nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) [25][26][27].…”
