“…Detailed 2-D, pulsed Doppler and spectral tissue Doppler echocardiography were performed at rest, including on-line analysis of all patients as previously reported (Vivid 7; GE Electronics, Syracuse, USA) (17). LV M-mode measurements of wall thickness and end-diastolic and end-systolic diameters were used for calculating LV fractional shortening and LV ejection fraction.…”

“…In the clinical setting, LV diastolic function is mainly evaluated by the transmitral flow See page 1157 velocity pattern using Doppler echocardiography. Evaluation of LV diastolic function is also needed in patients with AF which is extremely challenging because of the lack of atrial systolic transmitral flow wave and the irregularity of Doppler parameters caused by irregular R-R intervals (5)(6)(7).…”

“…There was a steeper decrease in normalized FAC as the cycle length decreased to shorter than 500 ms. The possible causes include inadequate RV filling and steep mechanical‐restitution slope of ventricular contractility at short cycle lengths 4,23,34‐36 . Due to the cycle‐length limit, it would at times be infeasible to assess RV FAC by the single‐beat method in patients who have AF with rapid ventricular rates, when two preceding beats with equal cycle lengths longer than 500 ms might be difficult to be found.…”
