Single-Element Solution Comparisons with a High-Performance Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometric Method

Abstract: A solution-based inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometric (ICP-OES) method is described for elemental analysis with relative expanded uncertainties on the order of 0.1% relative. The single-element determinations of 64 different elements are presented, with aggregate performance results for the method and parameters for the determination of each element. The performance observed is superior to that previously reported for ICP-OES, resulting from a suite of technical strategies that exploit the… Show more

“…The solutions were gravimetrically diluted to the required concentration. The use of selenium as the internal standard coupled with a bracketing calibration procedure was in line with earlier work that used ICP-OES for high accuracy analysis [11][12][13]. Table 2.…”

“…With our lengthy experience in ICP-OES analysis in the metrological measurement environment, we accurately measure inorganic P as demonstrated by one of our peer metrology institutes [22]. To fully realize this excellent accuracy of ICP-OES in determination of P from the target nucleotide, extreme care has been taken.…”

“…The number of moles of P atoms determined by this procedure is converted to the number of moles of the oligonucleotide by dividing it with the number of phosphodiester bonds in the oligonucleotide. Highly elemental speciWc and reproducible ICP-OES analysis combined with rigorous drift correction permits the determination of major inorganic constituents in solution with an uncertainty of only 0.1% [22,23]. The concept of the proposed analytical approach (Fig.…”
