Hospital scheduling presents huge challenges for the healthcare industry. Various studies have been conducted in many different countries with focus on both elective and non-elective surgeries. There are important variables and factors that need to be taken into considerations. Different methods and approaches have also been used to examine hospital scheduling. Notwithstanding the continuous changes in modern healthcare services and, in particular, hospital operations, consistent reviews and further studies are still required. The importance of hospital scheduling, particularly, has become more critical as the trade-off between limited resources and overwhelming demand is becoming more evident. This situation is even more pressing in a volatile country where shootings and bombings in public areas happened. Hospital scheduling for elective surgeries in volatile country such as Iraq is therefore often interrupted by non-elective surgeries due to war-related incidents. Hence, this paper intends to address this issue by proposing a hospital scheduling model with focus on neuro-surgery department. The aim of the model is to maximize utilization of operating room while concurrently minimizing idle time of surgery. The study focused on neurosurgery department in Al-Shahid Ghazi Al-Hariri hospital in Baghdad, Iraq. In doing so, a Mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model is formulated where interruptions of non-elective surgery are incorporated into the main elective surgery based model. Computational experiment is then carried out to test the model. The result indicates that the model is feasible and can be solved in reasonable times. Nonetheless, its feasibility is further tested as the problems size and the computation times is getting bigger and longer. Application of heuristic methods is the way forward to ensure better practicality of the proposed model. In the end, the potential benefit of this study and the proposed model is discussed.

For promising outcome in auto industries, scheduling place a vital role for effective utilization of jobs allocate to machine. Jobs and machines are two attributes need to schedule for minimize makespan time, for each job we need to schedule the machine. Each job in a machine has its own process time, manipulation of all process time said to be makespan time that should minimized. Job shop scheduling is an effective tool incorporate with NP hard problems to achieve minimized makespan time. To achieve minimized makespan time optimization involve in this process those are namely Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Social Spider Optimization (SSO). While applying these aforementioned optimization techniques, they reveal minimized makespan time compare with benchmark problems. Amid, SSO revels minimized makespan time for all twelve-bench mark problems compare with other competitive algorithm namely GWO and PSO. )>IJH=?J Interfering jobs problems (or multi agents scheduling problems) are an emergent topic in the scheduling literature. In these decision problems, two or more sets of jobs have to be scheduled, each one with its own criteria. More speci cally, we focus on a problem in which jobs belonging to two sets have to be scheduled in a single machine in order to minimize the total owtime of the jobs in one set, while the total owtime of the jobs in the other set should not exceed a given constant ϵ. This problem is known to be weakly NP-hard, and a Dynamic Programming (DP) algorithm has been proposed to nd optimal solutions.In this paper, we rst analyse the distribution of solutions of the problem in order to establish its empirical hardness. Next, a novel encoding scheme and a set of properties associated to the neighbourhood of this scheme are presented. These properties are used to develop both exact and approximate methods, i.e. a branch and bound (B&B) method, several constructive heuristics, and di erent versions of a genetic algorithm (GA). The computational experience carried out shows that the proposed B&B is more e cient than the existing DP algorithm. The results also show the advantages of the proposed encoding scheme, as the approximate methods yield close-to-optimum solutions for big-sized instances where exact methods are not feasible.Scheduling interfering jobs two-agent scheduling problem total owtime single machine
