Single nucleotide polymorphisms, haplotypes and combined genotypes of LAP3 gene in bovine and their association with milk production traits

Abstract: Leucine aminopeptidase 3 (LAP3) is an aminopeptidase which catalyses the removal of N-terminal amino acids and is involved in protein maturation and degradation. In this study, we detected the polymorphisms of LAP3 gene by polymerase chain reaction-single-strand conformation polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) and DNA sequencing methods in 916 individuals from three Chinese cattle breeds including Chinese Holstein, Luxi Yellow and Bohai Black. One novel single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) (g.24564G>A ss196003366) and fou… Show more

“…Olsen et al (2005) mapped a QTL to a 420-kb region in bovine chromosome 6 containing six milk production candidate genes including the PEPS gene. Zheng et al (2011) studied the five SNPs in the introns 12 and exon 13 of the PEPS gene, and SNP g.25415 T > C was found to be significantly associated with protein percentage. In the current study, two novel SNPs in the promoter region of the bovine PEPS gene were genotyped, and their combined haplotypes were associated with milk quality traits.…”

“…On BTA6, the LAP3 gene was found associated with PP. Recently this locus was related to milk production by Zheng et al (2011). A significant marker, the BTA-92644-no-rs was located on BTA20 at 38.9 Mb, close to the prolactin receptor (PRLR) gene was found.…”

“…As for g.2264T>C SNP in intron 2, the TT genotype had a higher spine BMD, femoral neck hip BMD, and total hip BMD than genotypes TC and CC, almost reaching a significant level (Table 4, P = 0.053, P = 0.061, and P = 0.072, respectively). Although introns are not coding sequences, there is constant evidence to prove that introns play an important role in regulating mRNA splicing, transcription, and gene expression and regulation (Nott et al, 2003;Zheng et al, 2011;Yuan et al, 2012).…”
