The use of sisal decorticated waste (SDW) for various applications is limited due to its high acidic content. This is the first study of its kind regarding the use of SDW as a substrate for the growth of the black soldier fly (BSF). Pre-treatment was a necessary and challenging step performed on the waste to meet the minimum requirements for the rearing of BSF. The SDW was sun dried, sieved, and decomposited and neutralized to form the final products that were used for the rearing of BSF. The resultant waste had fourteen (14) elements; the essential elemental form results were Ca, P, K, Mn, Fe, Cu, and Zn at varying levels, which are all essential for animal growth. The SDW contained 10 ± 0.01 percent of crude protein, 11 ± 0.02 moisture and energy (1615 kcal/g of sisal decorticated waste). The sun dried BSF larvae were reared on SDW that contained 53 ± 0.005 percent of crude protein, 4 ± 0.01 percent of crude fat, a moisture content of (10 ± 0.1)%, carbohydrate percent of (43 ± 0.01)%, and ash percent of (37 ± 0.08). When rearing was finished, 3000 g of dried pre-treated waste yielded more wet BSF larvae, (336 ± 41.3) g, compared to 3000 g of fruit waste, which yielded (244 ± 4.16) g of wet BSF larvae. Therefore, based on this study, SDW is a promising potential feed for rearing BSF because it had a better reduction of the waste by 52%. Furthermore, the harvested BSF larvae contained sufficient nutritional value to feed poultry and fish.

India’s rich cultural diversity and heritage provide a unique and huge resource for developing craft products. India is one of the important suppliers of handicrafts to the world market. The industry is mostly spread in rural and urban areas, highly labor-intensive, and cottage-based decentralized industry. Many artisans, on a part-time basis, are involved in the crafts work. In addition, many Governmental and non-governmental organizations are engaged creating income opportunities for these artisans. Few of them are engaged in women empowerment programs, developing training programs for women to make them self-reliant and independent learners. In today’s world, all are talking about sustainability. Many artisans are engaged in making eco-friendly and sustainable crafts from various natural materials when it comes to handicrafts. Natural fibers play a very important role in the production of the handicraft industry in India. The crafts like baskets, carpets, wall hangings, bottle holders, bags and accessories, home décor items, and many more are made using natural fibers like jute, banana, coir, sisal, bamboo, etc. The present paper will explain the procedures used for manufacturing these crafts using natural Sisal fiber. The data has been collected from various organizations for the process and methods used to manufacture these crafts. Producing a craft using natural material and eco-friendly processes helps in reducing the carbon footprint (the number of greenhouse gases, mostly CO2 released into the atmosphere by any activity) and makes the manufacturing process more environmentally friendly. Many Indian handicrafts and artisans have incorporated the ideology of eco-friendly fashion and contributing to reducing the environmental impact of these handcrafted products. Natural fibers are promoted in large quantities for making handicrafts. The growing popularity of fiber crafts is following the huge demand for Eco-friendly products throughout the world. Fibers extracted from bananas, sisal, Pina, and jute are mainly used to produce crafts.

Sisal is the most commonly used natural fiber in polymer composites due to its high strength, durability, and ability to stretch. In this present work, sisal and human hair were used as reinforcement for epoxy resin-based hybrid composites, and their effect on the mechanical properties was reported. Four composite plates with fiber volume fractions of 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40% were fabricated by the hand lay-up method. Chopped sisal fiber and human hair of 30 mm length were mixed with epoxy resin to fabricate the composites. In addition, high-speed steel (HSS) drills were used to study the influence of drilling parameters such as speed, feed, and drill point angle on the quality of the drilling. Three factors with three levels were considered for the design of the experiment. The drilling parameters were optimized using Grey Relational Analysis and the Taguchi method for the reduction of delamination. The experimental results indicate that a flexural strength of 38 MPa was achieved in a 60% epoxy, 20% sisal, and 20% human hair composite. NI vision assistant software was used to process the images taken on the drilled holes using the Matrix Vision camera. The optimization results showed that the feed rate played a pivotal role in deciding the delamination on the entry side of the hole. In contrast, the drill point angle significantly affects the delamination at the exit side of the hole. Better quality holes are achieved with a cutting speed of 2500 rpm and a feed rate of 50 m/min.
