How can the lens of the ‘urban impasse’ help us make sense of the relationship between inequality, institutions and contemporary urban life? And how can urban studies benefit from feminist affect theory to explore the theoretical potential of the ‘urban impasse’? An impasse is a dead end; it connotes an experience of being stuck, lacking orientation or a sense of the future. Still, an impasse also bears transformative potential as a powerful way of halting and denouncing that which does not work or is heading in the wrong direction—as was powerfully brought to stage in cities around the world by climate change, antiracist and women's rights movements in recent years.

Arising from a keynote presentation given at the third Sustainable Design for Liveable Cities (SUDLiC) conference on “Sustainable Cities for All” in 2021, this short commentary considers some implications of the COVID-19 pandemic for urban futures. In particular, we take responses to the pandemic in cities in Southeast Asia as a set of resources for re-evaluating prevailing conceptions of the “good city” – now, and into the future. While initial responses understandably focused on the management of public health and safety, it has been recognised that pandemic times more widely have provided an opportunity for planning priorities to be “reset” (Martinez and Short, 2021). What has that meant across a region as diverse as Southeast Asia in terms of both governmental capacity and levels of economic development? What roles have been played during the pandemic by experts/authorities on the one hand, and “ordinary” city inhabitants on the other? And what do varied performances of these roles over the past two years tell us about possibilities for the post-pandemic city? These are among the key questions that guide our deliberation of future urban prospects in and beyond (post-)pandemic Southeast Asia.

The increasing demands for interactive response time from the users makes query performance one of the central problems of Data warehouse systems today. Performance is an important quality aspect of Data warehouse systems. Predicting the performance of Data warehouse systems during early design stages of their development is significant. Software Performance Engineering(SPE) promotes the idea that the integration of performance analysis into the software development process, from the earliest stages to the end, can ensure that the system will meet its performance objectives. This paper describes the features and use of a prototype tool, DWPPT(Data Warehouse Performance Prediction Tool) which is designed to analyze the performance of the Data warehouse in different environmental conditions. The tool supports SPE process for Data warehouse systems. The tool is useful for Data warehouse managers in identifying critical components, diagnosing problems and hence optimizing the overall design. Our objective is to investigate the impact of Data warehouse design factors on OLAP performance for different user populations and hardware configurations. An analytical and simulation modeling approach is used for the tool to predict performance of Data warehouse systems.
