Size variation of polyaniline nanoparticles dispersed in polyvinyl alcohol matrix

Abstract: We report the preparation of polyaniline (PANI) nanoparticles dispersed in polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) matrix. From SEM picture it is seen that the particle sizes vary from 100-20 nm. Also with increase in PVA content the stability of dispersion is found to increase. Apart from SEM, spin cast films of PANI in PVA are also characterized through XRD and FTIR. XRD shows increase in crystallinity with PVA content and FTIR gives evidence of crosslinking between PANI and PVA molecules. In plane electrical conductivity (… Show more

“…Following the literature data [19,20], R c was assumed to be equal to 1.045·10 -4 mm (see the description of numerical experiments in [21] for more details), and the side length of the domain L was assumed to be equal to 0.01 mm.…”

“…Some of these techniques are gamma radiation doping, chemical oxidative polymerization, electrochemical polymerization, sol-gel polymerization, Yang, M.Z. et al (2011), dispersion polymerization Bhadra, J. and Sarkar, D., (2010). The other way to increase the processibility of the Polyaniline is to use inorganic filler, such as Titanium Di-oxide, Wu, T. M. et al (2005), Sainz, R. et al (2005) and Wei, Z. X. et al (2003) that has excellent physical and chemical properties and has been used in coating, sensor, solar cell and photo catalyst applications Baibarac, M. et al (2003), which can be added into the polymer matrix as second phase.…”

“…Figure (A) (d) implies a peak at 2θ = 19 related to overlapped peaks of PVA and PANI and the new peaks at 2θ = 26, 32, 39 related to Ag oxides (AgO and Ag 2 O) structures . In the absence of acid medium (pH = 5.5), the peak centered at 2θ = 19 related to overlapped peaks of PANI and PVA and the peaks of Ag NPs were appeared at 2θ = 38 and 44.5 with low intensity [Figure (B)]. XRD results show that in different acidic solutions, positively‐charged AgNPs can be appeared as Ag, AgCl, AgO, and Ag 2 O NPs and the pH of reaction has most important effect on the structure of obtained composites.…”

“…Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), a water soluble hydrophilic polymer, is widely used in industries owing to its excellent chemical and physical properties, nontoxicity, excellent chemical resistance, good film formation capacity, biocompatibility and high crystal modulus. On the other hand the existence of PVA in the preparation of PANI composite increases crystallinity and stability in PANI and also decreases the size of PANI dispersion NPs . To the best of knowledge, studies on the synthesizing of AgCl/PANI nanocomposite in PVA matrix through chemical polymerization are relatively rare.…”
