Skin bacterial structure of young females in China: The relationship between skin bacterial structure and facial skin types

Abstract: The skin and its symbiotic microbiota work together to maintain skin health through complex communication. [1] The diverse skin microenvironments with distinct pH, temperature, moisture, sebum content and topography influence the colonization and function of the resident flora, such as oily surfaces support lipophilic bacteria. [2,3] Meanwhile, microbial sensing and signalling mechanisms, metabolic pathways or immunogenic features are likely to exhibit site specificity and individual-specific to sustain host i… Show more

“… 9 The microbiota present on the skin (which consists of both commensal and pathogenic microbes) can be transient or resident, 10 , 11 and these microbes affect the skin barrier and epithelial innate immune responses. 12 , 13 When the barrier is disturbed or the balance between commensal microbiota and pathogens is disrupted, skin disease or even systemic disease may occur. 14 , 15 …”

“…For example, the β -diversity of sensitive skin and different skin types did not exhibit significant differences from healthy skin. 26 , 57 , 58 Hence, we inferred that it could possibly take a remarkable change in the skin physiological status to shift the overall species composition and relative abundance of bacteria, like psoriasis or other diseases. 59 , 60 …”

“…In south China, the temperature and humidity of the Hakka area keep increasing during these seasons, and microbes become more and more active, which causes more infections, including human skin diseases, respiratory disease, rheumatism syndrome, etc. [ 75 77 ]. Therefore, most Hakka herbs were employed for infectious diseases, which suggests their potential as anti-infectious agents.…”
