Skin manifestations of endocrine diseases

Abstract: Endocrine diseases may result in changes in cutaneous function and morphology, which cause various skin manifestations, including nonspecific or pathognomonic signs. some of these manifestations are already known dermatologic diseases with only increased frequency in this patient group. As a result the skin may the play role of a screen displaying endocrine disorders, either due to hormone excess or deficiency. Awareness of the skin manifestations may permit prompt and adequate approach to the patients, and th… Show more

“…The generation of artificial skin substitutes by tissue engineering is challenging 8 10 . However, the prevalence of pathologies affecting the skin, such as cancer, traumatic injuries or infections 4 , 5 , 30 , 31 , makes it necessary to search for improved models of bioartificial skin able to contribute to the treatment of these conditions. In recent decades, several improvements have been described in biofabrication procedures for artificial skin 20 , 32 .…”

“…Some of these skin diseases are primary localized cutaneous amyloidosis (PLCA) and acquired perforating dermatosis (APD). 3 Amyloidosis is a group of diseases caused by the deposition of misfolded protein, called amyloid, in certain tissues. The amyloid deposition that is confined to the skin is called PLCA.…”
