SLC components as an alternative to extruded alloys for marine applications

Abstract: The aim of this work is to analyze and compare two anodized components: a cast A356 T6 alloy produced by an SLC technique and an extruded A6061 T6 alloy. The corrosion mechanisms of anodized specimens are studied by electrochemical test, salt spray test and optical and scanning electron microscopy. The mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the two alloys are compared and the viability of the SLC components as an alternative to extruded alloys for marine applications is discussed. 7 2 2 0 5 Int J Ma… Show more

“…Leica MEF4M optical microscope and a JEOL JSM-5600 scanning electron microscope (SEM), equipped with an ISIS L300 Oxford system to perform energy dispersive X-ray analysis, were used to perform morphological observations. The specimens were polished down to grade P4000 with carbide-silicon paper and then with 0.3μm alumina suspension [3].…”

“…The effect is a non-uniform thickness of the oxide that was observed for the entire corresponding eutectic structure [2]. The distance between particles in an eutectic structure will also influence the quality of the oxide layer, due to possible overlapping of particles zone of influence (the oxide area affected around the particles) [3].…”

“…6b). Several equivalent circuit models have been proposed in recent years [8]. In this case, the equivalent circuit, according to the film's structure, consists of the resistance of solution R sol , the resistance of porous layer R p , the impedance of porous layer CPE p , the resistance of barrier layer R b and the impedance of barrier layer CPE b (Fig.…”
