Slope Stability Analysis Based on Rock Mass Rating, Geological Strength Index and Kinematic Analysis in Vindhyan Rock Formation

Abstract: The Rock Mass Rating (RMR), Geological Strength Index (GSI) and kinematic analysis are widely employed in geotechnical engineering practice. The RMR and GSI both are used for rock mass characterization while the kinematic analysis is applied to identify the mode of failure of slope based on rock discontinuities and slope face characteristics of rock. An attempt has been made to analyze the RMR, GSI and Kinematic Analysis using in-situ data corresponding to Vindhyan sandstone. The data has been c… Show more

“…RMR and GSI in combination are the best empirical methods for analysis of rock mass stability along with SMR and FOS to study slope stability. In previous study of landslide at 'Application of Slope Mass Rating System In Slope Stability Class Evaluation' (Rasyikin et al, 2019),'Slope Stability Analysis Based on Rock Mass Rating, Geological Strength Index and Kinematic Analysis in Vindhyan Rock Formation ' (Kumar et al, 2021) quite similar result had been obtain regarding to slope stability. The calculated value of R 2 obtained is 0.5485(Figure 3) in the study related to RMRb and GSI and FOS=0.937 and 0.569 which are less than one on the basis of ground water and elevation at two different location of the study area had shown more reliability of the study.…”

“…The data obtained in the RS2 software are similar to the natural processes occurring in the conditions of the mineral deposit development. The software package has been widely used at many fields, since it allows taking into account such factors as the physical and mechanical properties of rocks and fractures, the presence of water, stress condition, parameters of mine workings, types of support, the influence of fixed loads, expected displacements, and so on [16].…”

“…Generally, the study method uses laboratory and field data to determine physical and mechanical properties as a common work for sliding potential assessment [10][11][12][13]. The physical and mechanical properties in determining rock classification and shear strength parameters, such as weight volume (γ), porosity (n), elastic modulus (E), cohesion (c), internal shear angle (ϕ), etc.…”
