“…Regarding factor structure, three models have been identified: (a) Four latent factors (SCQ; negative consequences, positive reinforcement/ sensory-satisfaction, negative reinforcement/negative affect reduction, appetite/weight control), based on a college sample of smokers and nonsmokers (Brandon & Baker, 1991) and adult smokers in clinical trials of nicotine replacement therapy (Wetter et al, 1994); (b) eight latent factors (SCQ-Spanish; Cepeda-Benito & Ferrer, 2000; negative affect reduction, stimulation/state enhancement, health risks, taste/sensorimotor, social facilitation, weight control, craving/ addiction, boredom reduction), based on a sample of adult daily smokers on a college campus; and (c) 10 latent factors (SCQ-Adult; Copeland et al, 1995; negative affect reduction, stimulation/state enhancement, health risks, taste/sensorimotor, social facilitation, weight control, craving/addiction, negative physical feelings, boredom reduction, negative social impression), based on a sample of adult heavy smokers and ex-smokers and adult heavy smokers in cessation treatment. Overall, results suggest that the SCQ, SCQ-Adult, and SCQ-Spanish are useful instruments to assess smoking outcome expectancies among adults.…”
