“…Workers who are in contact with phenolic derivatives have been reported to develop vitiligo in a high percentage (27.2-44.4%) [8][9][10][11], whereas the percentage of vitiligo de velopment in our patients is low (6.7%) and similar to that found in patients with alope cia areata (4-8.9%) [4][5][6]. Moreover, vitiligo as a side effect of diphencyprone treatment has not been observed to our knowledge by other investigators who have also used diphencyprone for therapeutical purposes [1][2][3].…”

“…In autoimmune polycndocrinopathy 30% of the patients develop AA [9] and an association between A A. Hashimoto's disease and myasthenia gravis has been repeatedly reported [ 1,10,111. Many authors described autoantibodies against thyroglobulin, parietal cells, adrenal cells and smooth muscle cells in the peripheral blood of AA patients [12,13]; nevertheless their relevance to the disease is still unclear. 1 listologically AA is characterized by the accumulation of lymphocytes, especially pronounced in the active phase of the disease; this infiltrate predominantly consists of CD4-positivc cells with a CD4/CD8 ratio of approximately 4:1 [14,15].…”
