Smoothed particle hydrodynamics: Methodology development and recent achievement

Abstract: Since its inception, the full Lagrangian meshless smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) has experienced a tremendous enhancement in methodology and impacted a range of multi-physics applications in science and engineering. This review presents a concise survey on latest developments and achievements of the SPH method, including: (1) Brief review of theory and fundamental with kernel corrections, (2) The Riemann-based SPH method with dissipation limiting and high-order data reconstruction by using MUSCL, WENO a… Show more

“…In this study, the SPH method is used to model the thermo-mechanical behavior of an Al-Si alloy consumable rod that has been treated with a solid solution during the FS process. The equations of conservation of momentum, energy, and mass in their SPH forms, based on previous studies, 9,24 can be defined as follows:…”

“…In this study, the SPH method is used to model the thermo-mechanical behavior of an Al-Si alloy consumable rod that has been treated with a solid solution during the FS process. The equations of conservation of momentum, energy, and mass in their SPH forms, based on previous studies, 9,24 can be defined as follows: The SPH formulation of equation of material momentum, mass conservation, and energy conservation are as below: where t, ρ, Vfalse→, P, μ, .1emfext, e, εv, K, T, ϑi, q, and qH is time, velocity, pressure, viscosity, external force, internal energy, energy dissipation rate, thermal conductivity, temperature, kinematic viscosity of the particle i, heat flux, and heat generation rate, respectively. The deformation behavior of the consumable rod was imported into the model through the Johnson-Cook equation as follows: 9 The constant used in the Johnson-Cook equation is reported in Table 1.…”

“…24 As one of the earliest particle method, SPH has become a promising alternative to mesh-based methods and widely developed for fluid mechanics problems, structural analysis and fluid-solid interactions. 27,28 Despite this, SPH has suffers several drawbacks in comparison with classical FEM. 29,30 In the present study, the particle inconsistency and tensile instability problems are solved by using the kerneral correction though Symmetric Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SSPH) 31,32 and Total Lagrangian formulation in the initial undeformed configuration.…”
