“…This 40-item questionnaire assesses the extent of "traditional" versus "modern" beliefs of parents and their adolescents on various issues that include political attitudes, gender role conceptions, living preferences, attitudes toward authority, familialism, religious attitudes, attitudes about science, and pace of life. The instrument was originally developed for use with Mexican-Americans, but was adapted for Gujarati immigrant families in the United States by Patel et al (1996). This involved making some modi cations in item wording (e.g., replacing references to Mexico and Mexican traditions with references to India and Gujarati traditions) and adding an additional 18 items assessing attitudes toward dating, marriage, and relationships in the family.…”
