“…The socio-technical system in which the system is placed may also influence usage such interruptions by other workers, requiring that the user be able to save work uncompleted or to perform tasks concurrently. See [15] for a discussion of how user interface design may affect or be affected by the socio-technical system in which it is placed. Effective user representation covering the different stakeholders is necessary for all this information to be made explicit.…”

Citation: MAGUIRE, M., 2013
Abstract:The ISO 9241-210 standard provides a framework for human-centred design (HCD) activities comprising the four stages: context of use, specification of user and organisational requirements, design solutions, and evaluation against requirements. Other parts of the 9241 standard cover user interface design and usability.

“…Given the width and fuzziness of the concept, although surveys on the services enabled by CPS exist (Khaitan & McCalley, 2015), a comprehensive list of applications from a human and manufacturing perspective, is not available. It is therefore necessary to analyse different studies addressing Social-Cyber-Physical Systems (Horiguchi et al, 2013) (Horváth, 2014), user interaction (Maguire, 2014), (Gorecky, Schmitt, Loskyll, & Zuehlke, 2014), and collaborative contextaware systems (Salkham, Cunningham, Senart, & Cahill, 2006). These papers provide an overview of the evolving technologies and applications and highlight features, goals, means and collaboration approaches.…”

“…Baxter and Sommerville (2011) believe the field of CSCW has implicit roots in sociotechnical thinking. However, CSCW and social computing systems can be affected by many challenges (Grudin, 1994b), such as critical mass issues for people to participate (Markus, 1987), restrictions by hierarchical organisations (Katz & Kahn, 1978) and the need for technical support to achieve fluidly in collaboration between individual and co-workers (Maguire, 2013) as well as the social-technical gap (Ackerman, 2000).…”

“…Baxter and Sommerville (2011) believe the field of CSCW has implicit roots in sociotechnical thinking. Löfgren (2005) is of the opinion that when introducing any collaborative systems into any existing business work practices to support the existing knowledge formation, to develop and enhance organisational capabilities and improve collaboration and project communication, it is critical to understand the environment, the needs and social behaviours of the intended users, especially focusing on how they collaborate in groups in order to prevent deterioration and distortion between users' collaboration and other social activities within the organisation.…”
