Soil Chemical Pollution and Aggressive Pathologies

Abstract: Maintaining the soil in optimal parameters is vital for mankind, given its essential role in providing the alimentary base, as well as its extremely slow formation and regeneration (hundreds or thousands of years). The direct and indirect pollution of the soil and especially its chemical pollution represent a corollary of other types of pollution, given that it is produced by solid, liquid and gaseous residues. It may be involved in a wide range of diseases (respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, renal, haema… Show more

“…Some authors consider that CRC, like other types of cancer, could be a growing pathology mainly due to soil pollution, which plays a vital role in ensuring the food [14]. A Spanish group of researchers from Cancer and Environmental Epidemiology Unit, National Centre for Epidemiology, from Madrid, realized an ecological study in order to examine CRC mortality at a municipal level (8098 Spanish towns), over the period 1997-2006, because they considered that pollution can be a factor that intervenes in the development of this type of cancer.…”

“…The goal of ecological wisdom is the harmonious relationship between man and the environment. Therefore, resilient cities no longer focus solely on improving resilience against a single hazard, nor do they advocate a choice or balance among competing urban resilience such as those of ecosystems or social systems [12]. The study of ecological wisdom achieves harmony between man and nature by linking human values with ecological integrity.…”

“…Nephrotoxic effects of toluene have also been associated with null GSTT1 or null GSTT1/GSTM1 [83]. Lead Children's habit of hand-to-mouth and their higher respiratory rate and intestinal absorption make children more prone to lead (Pb) poisoning compared to adults [84], Pb being found in drinking water, dietary supplements, paints, leaded gasoline and even ceramic products [4,85] and even soil as a consequence of improper discarding of batteries, lead paints, fuels and even plumbing materials [86]. Lead poisoning is especially dangerous during pregnancy in high polluted areas (e.g.…”
