“…The QUEFTS model has been applied successfully in other countries for rice (Witt et al, 1999;Haefele et al, 2003;Das et al, 2009;Buresh et al, 2010), maize (Janssen et al, 1990;Saïdou et al, 2003;Mowo et al, 2006;Tittonell et al, 2008;Tabi et al, 2008;Setiyono et al, 2010), and wheat (Pathak et al, 2003;Maiti et al, 2006). In China, nutrient requirements for maize (Liu et al, 2006;Zhang et al, 2012;Xu et al, 2013) and wheat (Liu et al, 2006;Chuan et al, 2013a) were estimated and used to develop fertilization recommendations (Chuan et al, 2013b;Xu et al, 2014).…”

“…Therefore, the role of shell sand in shell ridge ecosystems cannot be replaced by silt and other soil constituents. However, compared to soil in agro-ecosystems, water and nutrient concentrations in shell sand, especially bio-available forms, are low (Mowo et al 2006). Decreasing suitability for habitation suggested that more attention should be given to shell ridge ecosystem preservation.…”

“…Land use change from dry land to rice paddies also usually improves soil quality (Bhandari et al 2002). Smallholder farm communities often improve soil quality indirectly by increasing the active participation of farmers (Mowo et al 2006;Huang et al 2007). The results of the current study support these findings.…”
