Soil quality indicators after conversion of “murundu” fields into no-tillage cropping in the Brazilian Cerrado

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate changes in soil quality due to different times of adoption of the no-tillage system in “murundu” (mound) fields converted to agriculture, as well as to identify the best indicators to explain these changes. The study was carried out on a Plinthic Altisol, in the municipality of Portelândia, in the state of Goiás, Brazil. The treatments consisted of different times of conversion and of adoption of the no-tillage system - 8, 12, and 17 years - and of native area between… Show more

“…The SOM is a nutrientes reserve for plants, with carbon (C) a large part of its composition (Ondrasek et al, 2019), it helps in physical structure of the soil such as porosity and stability of aggregates, facilitating development roots, fungi and water infiltration (Souza et al, 2019).…”

These systems promote a high carbon uptake, favor the nutrient cycling, improve the soil biota (Conte et al 2011), reduce the soil density and compaction degree, and increase the soil total porosity and aggregation, as well as the water availability and infiltration rate (Pezarico et al 2013).…”
