Solid‐State Synthesis of Silver Nanoparticles at Room Temperature: Poly(vinylpyrrolidone) as a Tool

Abstract: Silver nanoparticles have been used for a long time and recently various methods have been additionally developed for their production. Here we report for the first time a solid-state high-speed vibration milling method for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles, in which poly(vinylpyrrolidone) is used for the reduction of the silver salt. The synthesis is performed at room temperature and no surfactant to direct the anisotropic growth of the nanoparticles is required. The formation of the nanoparticles was stu… Show more

“…[12][13][14][15][16] For example, Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) has been used as an effective passivation agent for preparing silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) and other metal nanoparticles. 17 One of the green preparation methods of metallic nanoparticles is the polysaccharide method. In this process, Ag-NPs are synthesized in water as an eco-friendly benign solvent with polysaccharides as the stabilizer agent.…”

“…[6] In addition, we also introduced new techniques to fabricate surfactant-based gold nanoparticles and AgNPs. [7,8] Hence, with this experience and expertise in supramolecular strategies, [3,5,6] macrocyclic materials, [3,9] and nanoparticles, [5-8, 10, 11] we thought of combining them all together to form a new supramolecular macrocycle-based metal nanoparticle in pure aqueous medium that can be used for diverse pivotal biomedical applications. This fundamental thinking directs us to prepare well-dispersed AgNPs by using a macrocycle, namely cucurbit[7]uril, in the presence of sodium hydroxide in aqueous medium at ambient experimental conditions.[a] Dr.…”

“…These can either be incorporated by simple mixing or chemically bound to the polymer . Silver and copper nanoparticles and titanium zinc oxides are widely used as antimicrobial additives as they exhibit a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity and are usually blended in the polymers . Organic antimicrobial agents can be either incorporated or chemically bound to polymers.…”
