Solvolysis of Substituted Nortricyclanes and Norbornenes at 250°

Abstract: Solvolysis of nortricyclyl bromide ( l o ) , nortricyclyl chloride ( l b ) , nortricyclanol ( l c ) , and 5-and 7-norbornenols (26, 7 ) and e.~o-2,3-epoxybicyclo[2.2.I]heptane (11) in 10% v/v acetic acid-water at 250' yields 2-(cyclopentene)acetaldehyde ( 3 ) , 3-(cyclopentene)acetaldehyde (4), 3-(cyclohexene)carboxaldehyde ( 5 ) , norcamphor (6)-and norbornanediols. In each case the diol concentration builds up then decreases as the conversion to 3, 4, 5, and 6 occurs. When the substrates l a , b, and c, 26, … Show more

“…stainless steel 15% SE-30 on Chromosorb W column in a Varian Aerograph 200 chromatograph. 1 General exchange procedure The substrate (0.02 g) and 0.27 M DCI/D20 (5 mL) were sealed under vacuum in a medium-walled glass tube after degassing via three freeze-pump-thaw cycles. The tube was then heated for the prescribed time and temperature in a Pam high pressure autoclave containing water to equalize pressure.…”

“…In our continuing investigation of hydrogen isotope exchange by the high temperature -dilute acid (HTDA) method, we undertook a study.of a group of alkylated benzenes to establish its scope and limitations (1)(2)(3)(4)(5)(6)(7)(8)(9). Our goal was to determine whether the HTDA method can be used to label alkvl substituents with deuterium (or tritium).…”
