Some Aspects of Radiation Safety at the Holifield Heavy Ion Facility

Abstract: A new 25-MV tandem accelerator will be combined with the existing Oak Ridge Isochronous Cyclotron (ORIC). This facility will be capable of providing useful beams of heavy ions with masses up to A = 160 for nuclear physics research. A discussion of past radiation exposure problems at ORIC as well as a projection of exposures that will occur when the new accelerator comes on line are given.
