Some aspects of the effects of clobazam on human psychomotor performance.

Abstract: 1Three studies are described, the first being a comparison of the effects of acute night-time doses of clobazam 20 mg, amylobarbitone sodium 100 mg, nitrazepam 5 mg and placebo, on choice reaction time, critical flicker fusion (CFF) and stabilometer performance. Clobazam improved early morning performance on a choice reaction test, in contrast to the other two active drugs. 2 Repeated doses of clobazam 10 mg three times daily, chlordiazepoxide 10 mg three times daily and diazepam 5 mg three times daily were gi… Show more

“…Thirty stimuli were presented. The critical flicker fusion threshold (CFFT) (Hindmarch, 1979) Ventilatory response to C02 The ventilatory response to CO2 was measured using a Bell closed circuit spirometer (Ealing). The soda lime canister was removed from the spirometer circuit and the cylinder filled with 5% CO2 in oxygen.…”

“…There are numerous reports in the literature concerning the effects of these drugs individually and in comparison with other benzodiazepines (Gudgeon & Hickey, 1981;Hindmarch, 1979). Cull & Trimble (1985) compared the two agents in volunteers, but the same subjects did not receive both clonazepam and clobazam.…”

“…Clobazam, a 1,5-benzodiazepine, is structurally different from the 1,4-benzodiazepines and also lacks many of the characteristic sedative and amnestic side effects. Psychomotor and cognitive performance measures, including memory, have remained unimpaired with acute doses of clobazam up to and including 30 mg (Hindmarch, 1979(Hindmarch, , 1982a(Hindmarch, , 1985Wittenborn et al, 1979). Clobazam could not be distinguished from placebo in a repeated dose study comparing clobazam 10 mg three times daily on measures of driving performance, whilst lorazepam was significantly worse .…”
