Some novel hexa‐coordinated cadmium Schiff base complexes: X‐ray structure, Hirshfeld surface analysis, antimicrobial and thermal analysis

Abstract: A series of cadmium (II) complexes with the general formula of CdLX2, where X = Cl−, Br−, I−, SCN− and N3− and L is a tetradentate N4‐donor Schiff base ligand; were synthesized by a sonochemical process as a simple, cost effective and environmentally friendly method. The organic ligand was obtained by condensation reaction of triethylenetetraamine (trien) and cinnamaldehyde. The characterization of coordination compounds was carried out by FT‐IR, 1HNMR, 13CNMR, UV–visible spectroscopies and then conductivity m… Show more

“…Moreover, ligand (IAAP) have shown sharp band at 3,456 cm −1 which are the characteristic features of the –NH of isatin molecule. [ 40 ] Owing to the hydrated nature of the complexes, it is difficult to observe the absence and the presence of the (–NH) of the isatin molecule in all the complexes. The presence of the band around 3,400 cm −1 in the complexes of Co(II) and Ni(II) complexes is the indication of coordinated/lattice celled water molecule.…”

“…However, the parent drug oxytetracycline has shown a greater inhibitory effect relative to complexes. Moreover, the growth inhibitory effect is greater at higher concentrations of the complexes [49,50]. Antibacterial potency of the complexes is based on the chelation theory.…”

“…Moreover, the [Cd(1‐[[3‐methyl‐pyridine‐2‐ylimino]‐methyl]‐naphthalen‐2‐ol)Cl] complex showed significant antioxidant activity against DPPH (IC 50 = 138 μg ml −1 ) and antibacterial properties (judged by the diameters of inhibition zones), 20 like the cadmium (II) complex with reduced Schiff bases derived from N , N ′‐ o ‐phenylenebis (salicylideneimine) 21 . Other reports of cadmium based compounds proposed antibacterial and antifungal properties employing preliminary screening techniques based on Kirby‐Bauer's method 22–27 . Few reports of antibiofilm activity of cadmium complexes are available in the literature.…”

“…21 Other reports of cadmium based compounds proposed antibacterial and antifungal properties employing preliminary screening techniques based on Kirby-Bauer's method. [22][23][24][25][26][27] Few reports of antibiofilm activity of cadmium complexes are available in the literature. Likewise, two tetranuclear Cd (II) complexes with salen-type Schiff base ligands showed antibiofilm activity against Enterococcus gallinarum MTCC7049 and Proteus vulgaris MTCC744, 15 whereas the [Cd (sulfamethoxazolate) 2 ] complex showed greater biofilm inhibition (and destruction of already formed biofilm) than the free antibiotic against Mycobacterium fortuitum and Mycobacterium abscessus.…”
