“…The FTR technique has been used for many decades to address the low-speed problems at a number of test facilities. Application of FTR in the transonic regime has been much more limited but some testing was performed in Russia at the Sibnia Aerodynamic Research and Development Division 2 and in a semi-free-to-roll test conducted by Northrop and NASA Ames for the F-5A 3 . More recently the NASA/Navy/Air Force Abrupt Wing Stall (AWS) Program used the technique to assess uncommanded lateral activity on four military aircraft.…”
