Sonographie in der Diagnostik der Ileitis terminalis Crohn

Abstract: In order to check the value of sonography in the diagnosis of Crohn's disease, 81 patients who suffered from Crohn's disease were examined by means of real-time B-mode ultrasound. Bowel wall infiltration along the terminal ileum that could be shown to involve the coecum as well, appeared to be a reliable parameter in the diagnosis of Crohn's disease. This finding was most pronounced in acute disease whereas in chronic or mild disease, characteristic signs of Crohn's disease were absent. Among the complications… Show more

“…With regard to the detection of bowel abnormalities, the present study confirms the sonomorphology de scribed by others [2,4,6,13,[21][22][23][24][25], In particular, target signs, thickening of the terminal ileum ( fig. 1) and bowel loop conglomerates were seen.…”

“…As described, fistulae could be followed but this was only true with enterocutaneous fistulae visible from outside [6]. However, the incidence of abnormal findings was much lower than previously reported by others [1] and resembled more that described by Wellmann et al [2]. This may be due to the fact that the first study [1] basically included inpa tients who are more likely to have more active disease while the second investigation [2], like ours, dealt with a higher percentage of patients in remission.…”

“…Thickness and structure of the intestinal wall have been studied by B-mode sonography [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]. Bowel wall thickening in patients with Crohn's disease can be caused by inflammation or fibrosis, therefore conventional ultrasound does not permit differentiation between active and inactive disease [8].…”
