Spatial Differentiation of Water Quality Between Reservoirs Under Anthropogenic and Natural Factors Based on Statistical Approach

Abstract: This study illustrates the benefi ts of statistical techniques to analyze spatial and temporal variations in water quality. In this scope water quality differentiation caused by anthropogenic and natural factors in the Tahtali and Balçova reservoirs in western Turkey was investigated using discriminant analysis-DA, Mann Whitney U techniques. Effectiveness of pollution prevention measures was analyzed by Mann Kendall and Sen's Slope estimator methods. The water quality variables were divided into three groups a… Show more

“…The application of different multivariate approaches (cluster analysis, principal component analysis, factor analysis and discriminant analysis) helps in the interpretation of complex data matrices, provides a better indication of water quality and ecological status of the studied systems, allows for the identifi cation of possible factors/sources that affect water bodies, provides a valuable tool for reliable management of water resources, and fi nally offers a rapid solution to the pollution problem , Simeonova et al 2003, Singh et al 2004, Iscen et al 2008, Han et al 2009, Varol et al 2012, Gudas et al 2013, Boyacioglu 2014.…”

“…The nonparametric ManneKendall test (MÀK test) was used to analyse long term changes in nutrient concentrations in each river (Boyacioglu, 2014). To relate N tot and P tot concentrations (in mg dm À3 ) to the number of municipal biological waste water treatment plants (with improved removal of biogenic substances) (MWWTP), and to the fertilizer supply, Spearman's rank-order correlation was used.…”

“…As a summary tool, it provides a broad overview of water quality data and is not intended to be a substitute for detailed analysis of water quality data [20]. The application of different multivariate approaches (cluster analysis, principal component analysis, factor analysis and discriminant analysis) helps in the interpretation of complex data matrices, provides a better indication of water [23]. Albania has revisited the environmental laws.…”
