Species C is Predominant in Chinese Children with Acute Respiratory Adenovirus Infection

Abstract: 72 hours after the onset of symptoms, and then transported to the Network Laboratory of Chinese National Influenza Surveillance in Wuxi CDC. Seven viruses were detected with real time PCR methods. 4 All Hadvpositive nasopharyngeal aspirate specimens were inoculated into Hep-2 cells and were observed daily until an evident cytopathic effect was observed. Partial hexon genes were amplified and sequenced. 4 Phylogenetic trees were inferred by the neighborjoining methods with bootstrap test of 1000 replicates usin… Show more

“…However, it could lead to a severe outcome in immunocompromised hosts (Lion, 2014). Recently, more and more type 2 adenoviruses were identified in pediatric infectious disease (Ma et al, 2015;Dhingra et al, 2019), some of which were recombinants with other members in HAdV-C (Wang et al, 2016;Dhingra et al, 2019;Zhang and Huang, 2019;Zhao et al, 2019). In this study, the complete genomic sequence of HAdV-C2 strain HK91 was obtained by our method.…”

“…HAdV is responsible for about 5% to 10% of acute respiratory infections in pediatric patients less than five years old worldwide 23 . In particular, HAdV-C viruses are the most prevalent 24,25 . Homologous recombination plays an important role in the molecular evolution of HAdVs and has been previously confirmed for HAdV-A, HAdV-B, and HAdV-D 26 .…”

“…In conclusion, we propose that the SH2016 strain is a novel intratypic HAdV-C strain and may be an etiological agent of SARI. On the basis of their complete genome sequences, it arose through the recombination of two HAdV genotypes, HAdV-1 and HAdV-2, which frequently cause respiratory infection 9 , 21 23 . Whether the emergence of recombination strain might increase virulence, thereby posing a new global challenge with regard to acute respiratory diseases in the near future, warrants further investigation.…”

“…Among of these, members of the HAdV-B group (types 3, 7, 11, 14, 16, 21, 34, 35, 50 and 55) and HAdV-C group (types 1, 2, 5, 6 and 57) cause a variety of typically acute respiratory diseases. Especially, HAdV-C group could cause severe bronchiolitis or pneumonia in the early childhood 8 , 9 .…”
