Specific features of soils and herbaceous plant communities in industrially polluted areas of the Middle Urals

Abstract: Anthropogenic transformation of soils and specific features of herbaceous plant communities have been studied in areas polluted with heavy metals. With regard to landscape and edaphic conditions, all test areas have been divided into two groups: agrozems and technozems. Phytocenoses in test areas of the background and buffer zones belong to the glycophytic variant of meadow vegetation type and to the pre meadow stage of progressive succession, respectively. Chemical pollution leads to a decrease in coefficient… Show more

“…Enterprises of metallurgy, mechanical engineering, fuel and energy complex make the largest negative contribution to environmental pollution (including heavy metal compounds). At the same time, environmental damage caused by waste disposal is more than 60% of the total damage caused by the industry as a whole [Yaroshenko, 2011;Zhuikova et al, 2015].…”

“…Fugitive dust emission from tailing dump of ore mining and processing complex «Mikhailovsky GOK»: contamination distribution in atmospheric surface layer (mg/m 3 ) The chemical composition of ground water from observation well: the impact of solid wastes on groundwater (mg/dm 3 ) near ore mining and processing complex "Mikhailovsky GOK" (50 m from the tailing boundary) resources and to reduce an impact of processing wastes on atmospheric air, plant and soil cover, and natural waters[Bezel' and Zhuikova, 2007;Bolshunova et al, 2014;Minkina et al, 2014;Pashkevich et al, 2015;Timofeev et al, 2016;Zhuikova et al, 2015] The choice of tailing conservation method and technologies based on it was determined by the totality of physical and chemical parameters of wastes and shielding materials, opportunities of the method applied, and economic indicators of existing waste screening technologies.…”
