Spectrophotometric determination of Naproxen as ion-pair with bromophenol blue in bulk, pharmaceutical preparation and human serum samples

Abstract: A highly sensitive, accurate and simple spectrophotometric method was established for determination of naproxen (NAP). The method involved ion-pair complex formation between naproxen and bromophenol blue (BPB). The colored product was measured at 432 nm. The reaction conditions were optimized. The absorbance was found to increase linearly with increase in concentration of NAP which was corroborated by correlation coefficient value. Beer's law was obeyed in the concentration range of 1-110 µg mL -1 with molar a… Show more

“…The optimal reaction time was found to be 5 min at 30 o C after vortex mixing of the drug/reagent mixture for 10 s. The optimal analytical wavelength was found to be 470 nm (Idowu et al, 2009). Naproxen was determined by formation of ion-pair complex with bromophenol blue, the colored product was measured at 432 nm (Keyhanian et al,2014), another ion-pair procedure based on reaction between Naproxen with two sulfophthalein acid dyes, namely bromocresol green and bromothymol blue (Alizadeh and Keyhanian, 2015).…”

“…The influence of pH on the electrode response was checked by recording the electrode potential readings for NAP solutions containing 10 À4 to 10 À2 mol L À1 at different pH values (pH [6][7][8][9][10][11][12]. The electrode responses were pH independent in the range from 7-11.…”

“…Like other NSAIDs, naproxen is capable of producing disturbances in the gastrointestinal tract; it is also associated with the smallest overall cardiovascular risks. Naproxen is rapidly and completely absorbed after oral administration, and it is the predominant species in serum, with a therapeutic range of 30–90 μg/mL .…”
