Spectrophotometric Determination of Zinc in Water Samples Using 3-Hydroxybenzylaminobenzoic Acid

Abstract: 3-Hydroxybenzylaminobenzoic acid synthesized in the laboratory as a reagent for the determination of zinc in various water samples. Zinc(II) reacts with 3-hydroxybenzylaminobenzoic acid and forms a light yellow colored complex at pH 5.0. The complex has a maximum absorbance at 460 nm. The complex is stable for more than twelve hours. Hence, a detailed study of the extraction of zinc(II) with 3-hydroxybenzylaminobenzoic acid has been studied. Other parameters like effect of pH, choice of solvent, interference o… Show more

“…the process also contain significant amounts of trace elements hence polluting the Geul River (Kuchaet al, 1996). Some research has been conducted on the determination of zinc metal in different types of water (Yilmaz,et al, 2009;Arancibia,et al,2010;Braga,et al, 2012;Kiran, 2012).Information on the studies of zinc in water from oil palm plantation is sparse…”

“…When the digestion solution turns into is clear, tge digestion was deemed complete and the solution was filtered to remove any solid undissolved debris. The zinc assay was carried out by using a UV/VIS spectrophotometer (JENWAY, Cole-Parmer Ldt, UK) according to the method described by (Kiran 2012). The chemicals used were bought from Sigma-Aldrich and/or Merck.…”
