Spectroscopy of excited states inMo102andRu

Abstract: Excited states in the transitional nuclei ' Mo and ' Ru have been populated in ' 0 induced two neutron transfer reactions at bombarding energies around 5 MeV/nucleon. The succeeding y decay was measured employing a particle-y coincidence technique in which the ejectiles were identified with a quadrupole-three-dipole magnetic spectrograph. This method is especially suited for studying the decay modes of regions with selected excitation energy and spin. A characteristic evolution in the population of known states… Show more

“…The position resolution of the detector, which is 3 mm corresponding to an energy resolution of 30keV under optimal conditions, was limited by straggling effects in the target to 15ram corresponding to 150keV (solid angle = 6 msr). The exact energies of the 37S and ass levels were determined from y-spectroscopy using the 36S(180,17Oy)37S and the 36S(180,160y)38S reaction, respectively, y-rays from the decay of excited reaction products were detected in coincidence with the focal plane ionization chamber events [18] in a true-coaxial Ge(Li) detector with an active volume of 130cm 3, located at 90 ~ to the beam axis at a distance of 3 cm from the target. By use of a Faraday cup made of lead and gold rather than tantalum the 7 and neutron background was reduced by an order of magnitude.…”

“…This encourages us to extend the treatment to adjacent odd-odd nuclei, for which recent and accurate experimental data are available [39,40,41]. To sum up, the present work aims at improving our comprehension of the interesting and variform spectroscopy of the A ~ 100 mass region, so rich in dynamical symmetries, to which Professor Kienle has given valuable experimental contributions [42], also confirming IBM-2 predictions [18], whose parameters have been taken into account in our analysis of even-even Ru isotopes.…”
