“…In the last few years our laboratory has been engaged in investigating lanthanum spectra belonging to di¡erent ionization stages, viz. La VI [2], La VII [3], La VIII [4] and La IX [5]. During these investigations we observed that some of the lines attributed to La X [1] in fact belonged to di¡erent ionization stages of lanthanum spectra.…”

“…As we had the wavelength data available in the appropriate region, the study of La X was undertaken. The additional reason for investigating this spectrum was to locate the low-lying con¢gurations involving f-electrons, which have been successfully identi¢ed in other lanthanum spectra [4,5].…”

“…Levels 5s 2 4f were identified by Larsson et al (1996) and by Wang et al (1996) based on nine lines measured with an uncertainty in the interval 0.5-1.0 Å and we confirmed all their identifications. Experimental levels of the 5s4f 5p configuration appeared in the analysis of Cs vii (Gayasov & Joshi 1999), Ba viii , La ix (Gayasov & Joshi 1998;, and Ce x (Joshi et al 2001), but they have not been observed in Xe vi and other members of the isoelectronic sequence. This seems to be an important configuration for the future extension of the Xe vi analysis, since its levels are in the interval 258-328 10 3 cm −1 (273-343.5 10 3 cm −1 according to Biémont et al 2005), between the 5s 2 6s and 5s 2 6d configurations.…”

“…To support our analysis, we used data from the In I-like isoelectronic sequence for Sb iii to La ix that were extensively investigated at Dr. Joshi's laboratory at Saint Francis Xavier University, Antigonish, Canada (Tauheed et al 1998;Gayasov & Joshi 1998Tauheed et al 1999Tauheed et al , 2000.…”

“…The valence and in some cases sub valence emission spectra of lanthanum up to ten times ionized are well known. Conventional spark sources were used to produce valence 5p spectra of La VI to La X in the 80-1240 Å wavelength region on a variety of spectrographs (Gayasov et al 1997, 1998Gayasov and Joshi 1998a,1998b. The spectrum of Xe I-like La IV has been observed using a spark discharge by Reader and Epstein (1975), who identified resonance transitions to the 5p 6 1 S 0 ground state from levels with J = 1 of the 5p 5 5d and 5p 5 6s configurations.…”
