Objective: The immunoscore, which is used to quantify immune infiltrates, has greater relative prognostic value than tumor, node, and metastasis (TNM) stage and might serve as a new system for classification of colorectal cancer. However, a comparable immunoscore for predicting lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) prognosis is currently lacking. Methods: We analyzed the expression of 18 immune features by immunohistochemistry in 171 specimens. The relationship of immune marker expression and clinicopathologic factors to the overall survival (OS) was analyzed with the Kaplan-Meier method. A nomogram was developed by using the optimal features selected by least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression in the training cohort (n = 111) and evaluated in the validation cohort (n = 60). Results: The indicators integrated in the nomogram were TNM stage, neuron-specific enolase, carcino-embryonic antigen, CD8 center of tumor (CT) , CD8 invasive margin (IM) , FoxP3 CT , and CD45RO CT . The calibration curve showed prominent agreement between the observed 2-and 5-year OS and that predicted by the nomogram. To simplify the nomogram, we developed a new immune-serum scoring system (I-SSS) based on the points awarded for each factor in the nomogram. Our I-SSS was able to stratify same-stage patients into different risk subgroups. The combination of I-SSS and TNM stage had better prognostic value than the TNM stage alone. Conclusions: Our new I-SSS can accurately and individually predict LUAD prognosis and may be used to supplement prognostication based on the TNM stage.

“…The American genus Spigelia Linneaus (1753, p. 149) is part of the strychnine family Loganiaceae, well represented in tropical America (Struwe et al 2018). Despite Spigelia being an American endemic genus, the widespread S. anthelmia Linneaus (1753, p. 149) has recently been indicated as invasive in tropical Africa and Asia (Desai and Raole 2013, Liang et al 2019). The genus is composed by herbs and subshrubs with opposite to pseudoverticillate leaves, with simple to stellate trichomes, with eucamptodromous, pinnipalmate or sometimes single‐nerved venation, usually monochasial‐scorpioid inflorescence and a typical asterid flower: actinomorphic, (4–)5‐lobed and usually attractive, with five stamens attached to the corolla tube and superior ovary (Struwe et al 2018).…”

Nomenclatural issues are still present in the American genus Spigelia due to the absence of recent taxonomic revisions. In this study, we propose eight lectotypes and one neotype for Central and South American species. The protologues of Spigelia ambigua, S. asperifolia, S. brachystachya, S. cascatensis and S. riedeliana have no indication of the holotype herbarium, thus requiring lectotypifications. Spigelia beyrichiana var. breviflora and S. herzogiana were based on syntype gatherings and also require lectotypification. Spigelia stenocardia had its holotype destroyed in Berlin in 1943 and a lectotype is indicated here. The location of the type collection of S. beyrichiana is still unknown, therefore a neotype is hereby indicated.

Synopsis of Loganiaceae in Pernambuco, Brazil

Loganiaceae is a member of the Gentianales order and comprises about 460 species in 16 genera, being mainly distributed in the tropical regions of the world. The Brazilian Neotropical region is one of the centers of diversity for two of the richest genera of Loganiaceae, Spigelia and Strychnos, justifying floristic efforts to better understand family diversity in this region. This study aims to update the taxonomic knowledge about the Loganiaceae of the state of Pernambuco, Northeastern Brazil, providing an identification key, diagnostic characters of the species emphasizing vegetative features, illustrations and photos, distribution maps, and occurrence within Conservation Units. We analyzed collections from 18 local herbaria and conducted field expeditions to strategical locations of the state between 2017 to 2019. In total, we identified 16 species belonging to three genera: Mitreola (1), Spigelia (8) and Strychnos (7). As shown in previous studies, the morphology of the carpoatlas was determinant in the recognition of Spigelia species. In Pernambuco, Mitreola petiolata, Spigelia flemmingiana, S. laurina, S. scabra, Strychnos atlantica, S. divaricans, S. mattogrossensis, and S. trinervis were found only in the Atlantic Forest, while Spigelia alborubra, S. linarioides, S. pernambucensis, Strychnos gardneri, and S. rubiginosa were found only in the Caatinga domain. Spigelia anthelmia, S. polystachya, and Strychnos parvifolia have continuous distribution between both phytogeographic domains, presenting high morphological variability in these areas. Among the 16 loganiaceous species, 13 belong to 20 different Conservation Units spread over the two phytogeographic domains, highlighting the importance of maintaining these areas for the conservation of biodiversity in the state.
